(2) Subject to any direction given by the Chief Justice, the Chief Magistrate shall be responsible for the day to day oversight of the judicial business of the summary courts and the assignment of cases to the magistrates. (3) The Governor acting with the advice of the Chief Justice may during any period where \u2014 (a) the Chief Magistrate is absent; or (b) the office of the Chief Magistrate is temporarily vacant, designate a magistrate appointed under section 6(1) to act temporarily as Chief Magistrate during the period of absence or vacancy.\u201d.
