The Cayman Islands (Constitution) (Amendment) Order 1971 (SI 1971 No. 1737)\", \"parties\": [], \"longTitle\": null}, \"docKind\": null}, \"bill\": null, \"judgment\": null}}","akn_full_text":"1971\/1737\n\n1\n\nSTATUTORY INSTRUMENTS\n\n1971 No. 1737\n\nCARIBBEAN AND NORTH ATLANTIC TERRITORIES\n\nThe Cayman Islands Constitution (Amendment) Order 1971\n\nMade\n27th October 1971\n\nLaid before Parliament\n2nd November 1971\n\nComing into Operation\n3rd November 1971\n\nAt the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 27th day of October 1971\n\nPresent,\n\nThe Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council\n\nHer Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in Her by sections 5 and 7 of the West Indies Act\n1962(a) and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy\nCouncil, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:\n\n1.(1) This Order may be cited as the Cayman Islands Constitution (Amendment) Order 1971.\n\n(2) This Order shall be construed as one with the Cayman Islands (Constitution) Orders 1965 and 1967(b) and\nthose Orders and this Order may be cited together as the Cayman Islands Constitution Orders 1965 to 1971.\n\n(3) The Interpretation Act 1889(c) shall apply with the necessary adaptations for the purpose of interpreting and\notherwise in relation to this Order as it applies for the purpose of interpreting and in relation to an Act of\nParliament.\n\n(4) This Order shall come into operation on 3rd November 1971.\n\n2.(1) Section 3 of the Constitution of the Cayman Islands is amended by the deletion of paragraph (1) and the\nsubstitution of the following:\n\n\"(1) There shall be a Governor of the Cayman Islands who shall be appointed by Her Majesty by Commission\nunder Her Sign Manual and Signet and shall hold office during Her Majesty's pleasure\".\n\n(a) 1962 c. 19.\n(b) S.I. 1965\/1860, 1967\/970 (1965 III, p. 5588; 1967 II, p. 2933).\n(c) 1889 c. 63.\n\n(2) Any reference in the Cayman Islands Constitution Orders 1965 and 1967 to the Administrator shall be\nconstrued as a reference to the Governor.\n\n1971\/1737\n\n2\n\n(3) The Cayman Islands Royal Instructions 1962(a) shall take effect as if they were addressed to the Governor,\nand any reference in those Instructions to the Administrator shall be construed accordingly.\n\n3.(1) Any reference to the Administrator in any existing law in force or otherwise having effect in, or in relation\nto, the Cayman Islands immediately before the commencement of this Order shall, in respect of any period\ncommencing on or after the commencement of this Order, be construed as a reference to the Governor.\n\n(2) For the purposes of this Order, the expression \"existing law\" means any Order in Council, ordinance, law,\nrule, regulation or other instrument made or having effect as part of the law of the Cayman Islands, but does not\ninclude any Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom so having effect.\n\nW.
