- - - 24th May 1972\nLaid before Parliament 31st May 1972\nComing into Operation 21st June 1972\n\nAt the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 24th day of May 1972\n\nPresent,\nThe Queen\u2019s Most Excellent Majesty in Council\n\nHer Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in Her by sections\n5 and 7 of the West Indies Act 1962(a) and of all other powers enabling Her\nin that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to\norder, and it is hereby ordered, as follows :\u2014\n\n1. This Order may be cited as the Cayman Islands Constitution (Amendment)\nOrder 1972 and shall come into operation on 21st June 1972.\n\n2._(1) The Interpretation Act 1889(b) shall apply with the necessary\nadaptations for the purpose of interpreting and otherwise in relation to this\nOrder as it applies for the purpose of interpreting and in relation to an Act\nof Parliament.\n\n(2) This Order shall be construed as one with the Cayman Islands Constitution Orders 1965 to 1971(c) and those Orders and this Order may be cited\ntogether as the Cayman Islands Constitution Orders 1965 to 1972.\n\n3. Section 26 of the Constitution of the Cayman Islands is amended by the\ndeletion of paragraphs (a) and (b) and the substitution of the following :\u2014\n\n\u201c (a) is a British subject of the age of eighteen years or over; and\n\n(b) either has been ordinarily resident in the Islands for a period or\nperiods amounting to at least five years out of the seven years\nimmediately preceding the date of registration and is resident\ntherein at that date, or is domiciled and resident therein at that\ndate.\u201d\u2019.\n\n4. A person who, immediately before the commencement of this Order, was\nregistered as an elector for elections to the Assembly but who is not entitled\nto be so registered under section 26 of the Constitution of the Cayman Islands,\nas amended by this Order, shall nevertheless be entitled to be so registered on\nthe first register of electors compiled after the commencement of this Order\nprovided that he would have been so entitled if this Order had not been made.\n\nW.
