WEIGHTS AND MEASURES LAW (1998 Revision)
#1. Short title
#1. This Law may be cited as the Weights and Measures Law (1998 Revision).
#2. Standard weights and measures-their custody
#2. As many sets of Imperial standard weights and measures of length, weight and
capacity as there are Districts in these Islands shall be procured, and when the same have been obtained, one set shall be deposited and kept at the Courthouse in each district and marked for identification in such way as the Magistrate may determine.
#3. Inspectors to be appointed
#3. The Magistrate shall appoint for each District an Inspector of Weights and Measures,
who shall be custodian of the standard weights and measures aforesaid, and who shall, at least once a quarter, inspect all weights and measures used by any vendor of goods, wares or merchandise within the District, and test the same so as to ascertain whether they correspond to the standard weights and measures.

#4. Penalty for possession of short weights and refusal to allow inspection, or
for obstruction
#4. Any vendor who has in his possession any weights or measures short of the said
standard or who refuses to allow the Inspector of Weights and Measures to inspect and test his weights or measures, fails to produce to such Inspector any weights or measures in his possession or otherwise obstructs the said Inspector in the performance of the duties imposed on him is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction before two Justices to a fine of twenty dollars and to imprisonment for three months.
#5. Use or possession of unjust weights or weighing machines
#5. Any person engaged in buying, selling or using any weighing machine which is
unjust, or any weight or measure other than those authorised by this Law or which is found unjust, or who has in his possession for the purposes of trade any such unjust weight, measure or weighing machine, is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction before a Magistrate, to a fine of forty dollars or to imprisonment for three months; and every such light or unjust weighing machine, weight and measure, shall, on being discovered by the Inspector, be seized, and on conviction of the person using or possessing the same shall be liable to be forfeited and destroyed.
