Traffic Law, 2011 (Law 26 of 2011) TRAFFIC (PUBLIC PASSENGER VEHICLES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2019 SL 29 of 2019 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 52 of the Traffic Law, 2011 the Cabinet makes the following Regulations —

#1. Citation

#1. These Regulations may be cited as the Traffic (Public Passenger Vehicles)

(Amendment) Regulations, 2019.

Amendment of regulation 2 of the Traffic (Public Passenger Vehicles) Regulations, (2014 Revision) - interpretation

#2. The Traffic (Public Passenger Vehicles) Regulations (2014 Revision), in these

Regulations referred to as the “principal Regulations”, is amended in regulation 2 as follows — (a) by deleting the definition of the word “taximeter”;

(b) by inserting in the appropriate alphabetical sequence, the following definitions — “ “National Taxi Fare Schedule” means the official schedule of taxi fares derived by distance in miles and number of passengers and such fares are capped at a maximum of fifteen passengers based on the taxi capacity; and

“Taxi Fare” means the amount charged for a specific number of passengers being carried in a taxi with a defined start and end location;”.

Amendment of regulation 9 - taximeters

#3. The principal Regulations is amended by repealing regulation 9 and substituting the

following regulation — “Taxi Fares

#9. (1) The driver of a taxi shall not carry on the business of plying for hire or

carrying passengers for hire or reward unless that taxi is quoting the National Taxi Fare Schedule as set out in the Schedule.

(2) A taxi shall not, at any time, charge above the National Taxi Fare

#Schedule as set out in the Schedule.

(3) A taxi may, in addition to the fare set out in Part 1 of the Schedule, charge for the considerations set out in Part 2 of the Schedule.”.

Insertion of Schedule

#4. The principal Regulations is amended by inserting after regulation 12 the following

#Part 2 — Other Considerations

Consideration Details Luggage First two (2) pieces of Luggage are free and CI$1.00 /US$1.25 per additional piece of luggage may be added to the fare.

Different passengers with different stops The fare is based on the total number of passengers and distance traveled to final destination at the start of the journey.

Passengers may determine amongst themselves how this is paid, for example a passenger getting off early on in the journey may put in extra cash towards the final fare to be paid at the end.

Waiting time if passenger stops somewhere before final destination (Idle time) First two (2) minutes are free after which a charge of CI$0.80/US$1.00 per minute may be added to the fare.”.
