Fees

Short title This Act may be cited as the Passport Act (2022 Revision). Definitions In this Act — “passport” means a document, issued to a person by the competent authority of any State, authorising the holder to travel outside that State to the extent and during the period therein provided; “passport office” means the government department responsible for services relating to the issue of passports and travel documents in accordance with this Act; and “Passport Officer” means the public officer in charge of the administration of the passport office. Cabinet may issue passports The Cabinet may issue or renew to any person a passport valid for a total period or periods not exceeding ten years in all from the date of issue. Passports Passports issued by the Cabinet shall be in such form or forms as the Cabinet may, from time to time, determine.

Fees (1) There shall be charged, in respect of passports and related matters, the fees set out in the Schedule. (2) Payment of fees under subsection (1) shall be evidenced by a receipt issued by the passport office. (3) The Schedule may be amended by the Cabinet from time to time by order. The Cabinet may make regulations prescribing — (a) forms of application for passports; and (b) fees to be charged for the issue and renewal of passports, and for the general administration of this Act. Penalties Whoever, in respect of any passport — (a) forges, alters or tampers with the same; (b) is found in unlawful possession thereof; (c) on finding the same, neglects or fails to send such passport to the Passport Officer; (d) falsely holds themselves out as the rightful owner thereof; (e) by any false representation, procures, obtains or attempts to procure or obtain the issue of the same to themselves or to any other person; (f) parts with the possession of the same to another person without lawful authority or for an unlawful purpose; (g) destroys, makes away with or by wilful neglect allows any other person to obtain possession of the same; (h) not having actual personal knowledge of the applicant for a passport makes any declaration verifying the declaration of such applicant or vouching the fitness of such applicant to receive a passport or to make any such declaration merely on information gained from the applicant or from any other person; or (i) contravenes any regulation, commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of one thousand dollars and to imprisonment for twelve months. Waivers The Cabinet, where satisfied, from time to time, may waive or reduce any or all of the fees specified in the Schedule, in relation to any person in the case of a medical emergency.
