CENSUS (CAYMAN ISLANDS) ORDER,

Paragraph 1

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 of the Statistics Law (1996 Revision), the Governor in Cabinet makes the following Order — Citation This Order may be cited as the Census (Cayman Islands) Order, 2010. Definitions In this Order — “Census Day” means the 10th October, 2010; and “resident” means a person who has lived in the Islands for at least six consecutive months, and includes (a) a person in the Islands on Census Day who intends to remain in the Islands for at least six months; and (b) a person who is a member of a resident household but living abroad for the purpose of study. Requirement to take census A census shall be taken of the population of the Islands on Census Day. Persons to be included in census Returns for the purposes of the census shall be made with respect to all persons who are alive on Census Day, and —

Paragraph 5

(a) who, being resident, pass Census Day within the Islands, or on a ship or boat within the territorial waters of the Islands; or (b) who, being resident, are absent from the Islands on Census Day with the intention to return not later than six months after the date of leaving. Persons who are required to make returns Returns shall be made by persons specified in regulation 12 of the Census (Cayman Islands) Regulations, 2010. The particulars to be stated in the returns in respect of every person to whom this Order applies shall be those specified in the Schedule.

(Paragraph 6) The particulars to be stated in the returns in respect of every person to whom this Order applies shall be as follows — Head of household — (1) Housing — (a) list of household members; (b) availability of — (i) internet at home; (ii) cable or satellite; and (iii) air-conditioning; number of — (i) radios; (ii) televisions; (iii) electric generators; (iv) fixed line telephones; (v) mobile phones; (vi) computers; (vii) motor vehicles; (viii) motorcycles or mopeds; and (ix) bicycles; (d) tenure; (e) type of dwelling; (f) housing insurance; (g) number of rooms; (h) number of bedrooms; (i) number of bathrooms; (j) shared bathrooms; (k) sewerage source; water source; (m) drinking water source;

(n) shared kitchen; (o) fuel for cooking; (p) type of lighting; and (q) use of renewable energy. (2) Deaths — (a) number of deaths in last 12 months; (b) sex of deceased; age of deceased at death; and (d) place of death. (3) Emigration — (a) number of persons who migrated from the Cayman Islands in last 10 years; (b) year of migration; country migrated to; (d) reason for migration; (e) sex; (f) age at migration; (g) citizenship at migration; and (h) education level at migration. All persons — (a) resident status; (b) where person stayed between 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. on Census Day; relationship to head of household; (d) sex; (e) date of birth; (f) age; (g) Caymanian and immigration status; (h) country of citizenship; (i) country of birth; (j) year last moved to the Cayman Islands; (k) mother’s usual place of residence at time she gave birth to respondent; mother’s district of residence at time she gave birth to respondent; (m) usual place of residence one year ago; (n) language most spoken at home;

(o) religious denomination; (p) disability or impairment; (q) chronic diseases; and (r) health insurance coverage. Persons 5 years or older — (a) school attendance; (b) type of school; location of school; (d) mode of transportation to school; and (e) highest grade completed. Persons 15 Years or older — (a) highest examination passed; (b) marital status; union status; (d) employment status; (e) category of worker; (f) hours worked; (g) occupation; (h) industry or business; (i) district of workplace; (j) means of transportation to work; (k) earnings; and means of financial support. Women 15 to 49 years — (a) number of live births; (b) date of birth of last child born alive; last child born still alive; and (d) number of live births in last 12 months.
