Regulation 1

TRAFFIC (CATEGORIZATION AND GROUPING) REGULATIONS, 2012 In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 22 and 142 of the Traffic Law, 2011 the Governor in Cabinet makes the following Regulations — Citation and commencement These Regulations may be cited as the Traffic (Categorization and Grouping) Regulations, 2012 and come into force immediately after the Traffic Law, 2011 [Law 26 of 2011] comes into force. Interpretation In these Regulations the weights are maximum gross weights. For the purposes of section 5(3) of the Law, the registration categories for vehicles shall be as set out in Schedule 1. For the purposes of Part 3 of the Law, the groups of vehicles for which a driver’s licence or learner’s licence may be issued shall be as set out in Schedule 2.

(Regulation 3) (a) Private motor cars - (i) For electric private motor cars, the ratio of the weight of the vehicle to (b) Private motorcycles - (i) not exceeding 50 cubic centimetres; (ii) exceeding 50 cubic centimetres but not exceeding 125 cubic centimetres; and (iii) exceeding 125 cubic centimetres. For electric private motorcycles, the ratio of the weight of the vehicle to Rental motor cars - (i) For rental motor cars, the ratio of the weight of the vehicle to the maximum engine power output shall be not less 10.50 kilograms per (d) Rental motorcycles - (i) not exceeding 50 cubic centimetres; (ii) exceeding 50 cubic centimetres but not exceeding 125 cubic centimetres; and (iii) exceeding 125 cubic centimetres. For electric rental motorcycles, the ratio of the weight of the vehicle to (e) Taxis and limousines (not exceeding 15 persons excluding the driver) - (i)

(f) Omnibuses for hire - (i) not exceeding 15 seats; (ii) exceeding 15 seats but not exceeding 40 seats; (iii) exceeding 40 seats but not exceeding 60 seats; and (iv) exceeding 60 seats but not exceeding 72 seats. (g) Omnibuses owned and operated by churches - (i) not exceeding 15 seats; (ii) exceeding 15 seats but not exceeding 40 seats; (iii) exceeding 40 seats but not exceeding 60 seats; and (iv) exceeding 60 seats but not exceeding 72 seats. (h) Rental omnibuses with seats not exceeding 15. (i) Private trucks - (i) not exceeding 4,000 lbs; (ii) exceeding 4,000 lbs but not exceeding 8, 500 lbs; (iii) exceeding 8,500 lbs but not exceeding 14,000 lbs; (iv) exceeding 14,000 lbs but not exceeding 33,000 lbs; (v) exceeding 33,000 lbs but not exceeding 60,000 lbs; and (vi) oversize vehicles as defined in the Law. For electric private trucks, the ratio of the weight of the vehicle to the maximum engine power output shall be not less 10.50 kilograms per (j) Rental trucks - (i) not exceeding 4,000 lbs; (ii) exceeding 4,000 lbs but not exceeding 8500 lbs; (iii) exceeding 8,500 lbs but not exceeding 14,000 lbs; and (iv) exceeding 14,000 lbs but not exceeding 33,000 lbs. For electric private motor cars, the ratio of the weight of the vehicle to (k) Trailers - (i) not exceeding 2,000 lbs; (ii) exceeding 2,000 lbs to 10,000 lbs; (iii) 10,000 lbs but not exceeding 60,000 lbs; and (iv) oversize vehicles. Rental trailers -

(i) not exceeding 2,000 lbs; and (ii) exceeding 2,000 lbs but not exceeding 10,000 lbs. (m) Invalid carriages. (n) Special vehicles - (i) backhoes not exceeding 10,000 lbs; (ii) loaders not exceeding 10,000 lbs; (iii) forklifts not exceeding 10,000 lbs; and (iv) vehicles in (i), (ii) and (iii) exceeding 10,000 lbs. (o) Exhibition Vehicles - (i) motor cars, vans and trucks not exceeding 10,000 lbs; and (ii) motor cycles, mopeds and scooters. (p) Pedal cycles.

(Regulation 4) (a) Group 0 Mopeds. (b) Group 1 Motorcycles (which includes mopeds and motor scooters) with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 125 cubic centimetres. Group 1(A) Motorcycles with a cylinder capacity exceeding 125 cubic centimetres and includes vehicles in Group 1. (d) Group 2 Group 0, motor cars, taxis and trucks not exceeding 8,500 lbs; omnibuses not exceeding a seating capacity of fifteen persons in addition to the driver, towing a trailer not exceeding 2,000 lbs except Groups 1 and 1A. (e) Group 3 Vehicles in Groups 0 and 2, trucks not exceeding 33,000 lbs and omnibuses not exceeding a seating capacity of forty persons in addition to the driver; towing a trailer not exceeding 10,000 lbs except Groups 1 and 1A.
